Carolina Maran,

SFWMD's Ana Carolina Coelho Maran on How Immigrating for Opportunities Led Her to Lead Everglades Resiliency with Compassion for the Hispanic Community

A Talk by Carolina Maran, PE, PhD (Resiliency Officer, South Florida Water Management District South Florida Water Management Distri)

About this Talk

Like many Water Professionals, Carolina's journey has taken her far from the country of her birth (Brazil), seeking opportunities for the best academic and professional experiences. Carolina met Dr. Cat while she was a Fulbright Scholar and doctoral student in Civil Engineering/Water Resources Planning & Management at Colorado State University, studying with the same Advisor as Dr. Cat and completing an internship with Dr. Cat's prior consultancy.

In this interview, Carolina takes us on her journey from grad school back to Brazil, and then to Florida, immigrating with two small children. Her experience adapting to a new country, a new culture, and a new language has prepared her for work with the communities her water district serves - including many communities of color and recent immigrants. Today, she is leading Resiliency programs for the US Everglades, one of the most important water bodies and ecosystems in the world!
